4 Fitting all models

Individual linear regression models were fitted for the chosen target variable cstar_tref as a function of each predictor combination. Fitting was performed separately within each basin, era, and slab. Model diagnostics, such as the root mean squared error (RMSE) was calculated for each fitted model.

5.2 Predictor selection

Within each basin and slab, the following number of best linear regression models was selected:

  • 10

The criterion used to select the best models was:

  • rmse

The criterion was summed up for two adjecent eras, and the models with lowest summed values were selected.

Please note, that currently the lm() function produces NAs for some predictors. Presumably this happens when two included predictors are collinear. It results in identical rmse values. Models with fitted NA predictors were not included.
